Please select an interview: An interview with Robbie Everest
VPW Online: Hello Robbie, thanks for finding the time to talk with us. Could you give our readers an update on what you've been up to since we saw you last on the February tour. Robbie: No problem, I've been hitting the gym really hard since then, trying to improve my size, strength and agility. Being one of the smaller guys on the rosters isn't always easy, I've suffered a fair few loses to the bigger guys, like Chris Andrews. However I feel that now that I'm bigger and stronger, while retaining my speed, I'll stand a better chance against larger wrestler. That will certainly be an advantage when I wrestle across the pond with the companies I've been in negotiations with. VPW Online: Yes, we read your announcement to the fans on the VPW Fan Forum that you will be appearing on your first tour America soon. Can you give us any more information on this? Robbie: Well, like I said in my announcement, I'll be over there for most of June representing VPW and the UK. So far I've gotten some dates in the Kentucky area with Ohio Valley Wrestling (the WWE development area where stars like John Cena, Randy Orton and Chris Masters worked), I got in contact with them through former WWE wrestler Eugene, who I met a couple of months ago at a show. I'm also in talks with TNA, but nothing is set in stone. I'd love the opportunity to wrestle for them and show what VPW and the UK have to offer. VPW Online: That sounds great Robbie, everyone here at VPW wishes you good luck. Now lets go back to the beginning, you were trained at VPW's School Of Excellence. Tell us about that. Robbie: Without a doubt that was one of the most enjoyable times of my life. I trained there at the same time as Sam and Chris, the Andrews Brothers. We were a really tight group, all good friends, who wanted to learn about pro wrestling constantly. Without going to that school I really don't think I would have done half the things I've done in my two year career. Even though he was a tough teacher I'd like to thank The UK Kid for all the time and effort he put into training me and helping me become the wrestler I am today. VPW Online: Yourself and The UK Kid have fought many times around the country, what's the score between you two now? Robbie Everest [laughs]: He'd probably tell you otherwise but I think the score is currently 5-5. He was up 4-0 at one point but I knocked him back down, I pinned him twice in two important tag matches as well as knocking him out of the Exmouth cup this year. I really feel the need to step into the ring with him again to prove that the student has become the master. VPW Online: We'd certainly like to see another match between the two. You mentioned defeating The UK Kid in tag matches, those were matches where you teamed with D'Lo Brown and Kip James. How did it feel to get your hand raised in victory along side two former WWE champions? Robbie: Both moments I will never forget. When I tagged with D'Lo it was in Bridgewater last year, my family, my girlfriend and her family were all in the audience so it was a special night. I don't think I'll ever forget D'Lo telling me to climb to the top rope and hit a frog splash on The UK Kid after he had just used the same move. The match with Kip was great too, I got involved in that by helping him against LT Summers and The UK Kid. I got my backside handed to me but Kip returned the favour and managed to save the day. That was a great moment, as a child I used to watch Kip on TV and want to be just like him and the other WWE wrestlers. VPW Online: What a lot of our readers may not know is that you have appeared twice on Sky channel 427, The Fight Network (formerly The Wrestling Channel). Robbie: That's right, once was for Irish Whip Wrestling against current WWE star Drew McIntyre (Drew Galloway at the time), it was the third match in my career and was being recorded for TV so you can imagine how nervous I was. Drew defeated me but it was a great experience. The second time was in London, also early in my career, I lost then too. VPW Online: Well don't worry, I'm sure you'll get a victory on TV one day. We're running out of time so I'll just ask one more question, one that many of our fans are wondering, will you be appearing on the tour in May? Robbie: Yes I will be, and I can promise that I will walk through those curtains and give the fans everything I have to entertain them. I'm not sure who I'm facing yet but I know that I will be victorious in my last matches in the UK before heading to the USA. Also, I'd like to give a shout out to my tag team partner Johnny Goodtime, it looks like he'll be heading out to Japan soon, so congratulations mate. VPW Online: Thank you for your time, Robbie. Makes sure you watch this space folks, as this young man is definitely going places. You can see Robbie in action on the tour in May, keep checking the VPW website for more information.
This week VPW online managed to sit down with the self-proclaimed "International Superstar", The UK Kid, in the first of a series of interviews and online features with Varsity Pro Wrestling stars. With The UK Kid we discuss his past, present and future in professional wrestling, including training with WWE legend Shawn Michaels, what he feels has made him special enough to be called an "international superstar" and why he insists on making such an entrance during his live performances...
VPW Online: Welcome UK Kid. Before we get down to business I want to ask what your views are on the newest additions to the VPW roster, Chris Mordetzky, formerly "The Masterpiece" Chris Masters. UK Kid: Have you seen me in action? Do you think I actually care that Chris Masters is here in VPW? I've kicked Kip James' ass from pillar to post on many occasions, not to mention everyone else I've stepped in the ring with. Not that I have anything to worry about on the Masterpiece front. He and I have chatted on the phone a few times, he called to wish me a happy new year, we exchanged Christmas cards, the usual things we superstars do. But we have an understanding and that's pretty much all you need to know. VPW Online: OK, well, for those who don't know, among Dory Funk Jr., and others, you were trained by WWE legend Shawn Michaels at the Texas Wrestling Academy. What can you tell us about that? UK Kid: Well, I moved to San Antonio, Texas, when I was eighteen in April 2000 to train with my idol and get the best possible start in pro wrestling that I could. I had already trained in the UK and had been wrestling since I was sixteen, so I had a bit of a head start, but it was definitely one of the toughest things I have ever done. I was in a class of about fourteen, I met a lot of weird and wonderful people there. There was Big Brandon, Terry The Indian, Little Brandon, my roommates Derrick and Camron (who now wrestles in VPW as Spiro). Hockey Ryan was another one, his favourite catchphrase was, "What you lookin' at, tough guy?" [laughs] His wife Veronica also trained with us, she went on to become Simply Luscious. Like I said, a lot of weird and wonderful people. But training was so tough. They had bins put around the building for people to throw up in, we couldn't use the windows because Shawn usually had his truck parked below, so obviously that was a big no-no. It was pretty much what you'd expect from a real wrestling school. It was full time, hours of cardio every day, hours on the weights and on the mats. It was a few months before we even started training in the ring. After the class was finished a select few were asked to work on the Texas Wrestling Alliance's shows, of course being an international superstar in the making I was one of those people. I can honestly say I took a beating for about ten matches in a row, but after that it was full steam ahead. VPW Online: Do you still speak to HBK these days? UK Kid: Yeah, I always call him at Christmas and we exchange gifts. VPW Online: Really? UK Kid: No, of course not. He calls me! Whenever I'm on the WWE shows in the UK he always makes an effort to stop and chat. VPW Online: Speaking of the WWE UK shows, you've been involved in quite a few, tell us about that. UK Kid: Well, they always have a number of UK wrestlers on the shows. Last year in Manchester I stepped into the ring with The Big Show. Yes, I lost, but I hadn't had a chance to warm up properly so he got off easy, had I won Vince would have been all over me like a rash.
VPW Online: Varsity Pro Wrestling also has a lot of connection with TNA, Total Non-Stop Action, have you ever aspired to work with them? UK Kid: I was scheduled to be on a few shows in 2005 when I was last in the States, but I broke my heel so had to cancel. Since then I've beaten Kip James within an inch of his life so many times that they told me I could work for them the next time I'm in States. VPW Online: The last time you stepped into the ring with Kip James you lost. UK Kid: Next question! VPW Online: OK then. You call yourself the "International Superstar", what does one have to do to become an international superstar? VPW Online: That's an easy question. It takes, and of course I speak from experience, ten years of hard work and global traveling, wrestling for the best companies in the world against the best wrestlers in the world. Of course you've got to have a superstar physique so daily weight training and two hours of cardio a day to burn off those excess calories. Like myself you should have a strict diet of chick, steak, ham, pasta, potatoes and jelly beans. Four hundred sit ups, two hundred push ups and seventeen star jumps before bed. No more than seventeen as this exercise can cause stress on your joints. And then most importantly six hours and forty five minutes of deep sleep before doing it all over again! Twelve raw eggs morning and night don't hurt either. VPW Online: With that in mind, why do you insist on telling every you can, at every opportunity you get, that you are an international superstars. Wouldn't you rather let your skills do the talking? UK Kid: If you did my daily routine wouldn't you want to let people know? VPW Online: Fair enough. Well, it's been a pleasure talking to you. I have just one more question, what does The UK Kid have in store for Varsity Pro Wrestling? UK Kid: Well, as you know and I'm sure agree, I think I'm very talented. In fact I think my name will go down in the history books! I may have taken n a few losses last year but come February I will be at the top of my game, I intend on stealing the show night after night and getting my hand raised every single time, proving that VPW's British wrestlers are better than those greasy Yanks.
